Aimee Hernandez’s life was dramatically changed on February 10, when she gave birth to her first child, Jameson. At 24 years old, her vision of pregnancy and motherhood was clouded by the simplicity that exudes from social media and television. With no one to turn to for advice besides her mother, Aimee turned to mom blogs, vlogs, and detailed google searches before and after birth. One month later, sleep deprivation, a colicky baby, and a boyfriend that works 65 hours a week has revealed that motherhood is not as joyous as it seems.
“Parenthood looks easier on social media,” said Aimee Hernandez, a first-time mom. “I usually post the cute videos and pictures, but any other time he’s crying or spitting up on me.”

 "During my pregnancy, I mentally bookmarked milestones and goals that should occur each month," said Hernandez. "Now, I'm just going with the flow and figuring things out along the way."

Is post-graduation depression real? While not having a formal diagnosis, the term is used to describe the feeling of sadness and loss some graduates experience following commencement. University provides an inveterate structure for students and once it’s stripped away and they are forced into the ‘real world,’ life becomes uncertain . Life that lacks mandatory classes, strict schedules, lunch during class gaps with friends and an abundance of anxiety and depression. Social media also contributes to post-graduation depression, as it is filled with stories of success from people in academia, celebrities, and public figures.
